The Lucky’s supermarket chain is shutting down nearly all of its 39 stores nationwide, including the one in Tallahassee. The Colorado-based grocer was recently divested by the much larger Kroger supermarket group.
Kroger had announced back in December that it was pulling its financial support from the Lucky’s brand, throwing the future of the much-smaller chain into doubt.
Now industry news source ProgressiveGrocer.com is saying all but a handful of Lucky’s stores will close as of February 12. The casualties include the Tallahassee store, which occupies the former Albertson’s location at the corner of West Tennessee and Ocala. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the only surviving Florida Lucky’s will be the West Melboune store.
Liquidation sales will begin Wednesday at the other stores.
