Leon's Tourism Impact Tops a Billion $

Tom Flanigan

Tallahassee’s tourism industry is coming off of a banner year. And now the destination’s marketing arm is beefing up its online presence going into the New Year.

Visit Tallahassee Executive Director Kerri Post said the area saw more visitors spending more money than ever.

"Over $1 billion!" she exclaimed. "The economic impact from tourism in Fiscal Year 2019."

Even though Hurricane Michael refugees and recovery personnel helped boost those numbers in the first few months of the fiscal year that starts in October. Still, Post was excited about some new initiatives to help maintain the tourism momentum.

"A new destination web site, again the way consumers are consuming content, we want to make sure we're hitting all the areas there. (And) developing and launching a new destination app."

Meanwhile, the Capital City continues to get outstanding coverage in old-school media, such as Southern Living Magazine and Florida Trend, which gave a record number of Golden Spoon awards this year to Tallahassee restaurants.
