After firing Willie Taggart for a 27-10 loss to rival University of Miami the Florida State Seminoles have decided to give University of Memphis head coach Mike Norvell the job.

Mike Norvell is leaving the University of Memphis after coaching four seasons. He’s led that team to three AAC West Championships, and believes after a positive 38-15 record with the Tigers, he’s prepared to lead the Seminoles to success.

“I want to be the coach that leads this program. I want to be the coach that gets the chance to give college football what it needs. And that’s for Florida State football to be one of the elite," said Norvell.

He says he met with FSU President John Thrasher mid-season.

“During our bye week that I had a little bit of time to meet up with President Thrasher and the whole group and that was a great meeting, a great moment," recalls Norvell.

Memphis’s bye week fell right after FSU lost to Miami. Taggart’s last game.

Norvell won his last game Saturday night--solidifying a Cotton Bowl appearance. He’s still undecided on whether or not he will be there for the Tigers after announcing his new job on Sunday.

The seminoles fired Head Coach Willie Taggart after going 9-12.
