School Board To Consider New Policy On Students Prescribed Medical Marijuana

The Leon County School board is set to propose a new policy at its meeting on Tuesday, allowing K-12 medical marijuana patients access to cannabis at school. The new rule would potentially be adopted mid-January. It looks to align the district with what's currently in state statute concerning students who are prescribed medical cannabis.

The statute says districts must have a policy allowing a student who is a qualified patient to use medical cannabis, to ensure access by the qualified patient, and to identify how the medical cannabis will be received, accounted for, and stored. It also requires districts to establish processes to prevent access to the medical cannabis by other students and personnel.

The school board meets at 6 p.m. in the Aquilina Howell Center at 3955 West Pensacola Street.
