The Tallahassee City Commission has approved new ethics rules. Previously, they only applied to appointed or elected officials.

Now, they include anyone appointed to a city board, commission or committee as well as employees and others required by law to file financial disclosure forms. The new rules ban bribery and kick-back schemes, along with most gifts. Mayor John Dailey is calling it the strongest reform package in the city’s history.

"If it is not the strongest it is one of the strongest ethics reform packages of any municipality in the state of Florida," Dailey says.

Most of the new rules were proposed by the city’s independent ethics commission. Anyone who breeches the rules could be fined up to $1,000 per violation.
