Local Stores Jump on Small Business Saturday Bandwagon
“Small Business Saturday” happened on the final day of November. Many Tallahassee businesses took advantage of the promotion to attract new customers and compete with the big national chains.
For some businesses, like Tallahassee Nurseries, the campaign continued into Sunday. To add a bit of musical spice to the shopping experience, FSU’s Caroling Noles were serenading the nursery's customers with songs of the season. Allen Stodgell, who’s worked the nursery’s busy times for the past 7 years, insisted this locally owned small business takes its customer service seriously.
"First of all, we'll tell you what not to buy," he explained. "A lot of places you can go will give you good deals and the plants will not last."
And Stodgell added few of the big chain stores can compete when it comes to employee knowledge and commitment to providing the best customer choices.
"Plants that will best suit your taste, your house and the environment you live in."
Tallahassee Nurseries formula seems to be working. It’s been in business since 1938, placing it firmly among the area’s oldest continuously-operating enterprises.
