Gulf Power has completed the first of 300,000 panels for a new solar energy center in Jackson County.
Gulf Power hopes its first solar center will power 15,000 homes. The Blue Indigo Solar Energy Center is slated to open early 2020 and another facility is in the works.
Spokesperson Sarah Gatewood says the centers will have smaller staffs, which will cut costs for customers. Gatewood also says customers will eventually see a decrease in utility pricing once the first center is built.
The company is looking for more places across Northwest Florida to build solar energy centers.
