Leon County to Consider Adult Business Buffer

Tom Flanigan

Some Northwest Tallahassee residents were upset when a Hustler Hollywood adult superstore took over the former ABC Liquors this past August. Now the Leon County Commission will be addressing the issue during its meeting next month.

District Three Commissioner Rick Minor was meeting with residents the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Tapestry Senior Living Facility, right across Stone Road from the adult superstore.

“Now we can’t do anything about Hustler Hollywood,” he admitted. “They’re compliant with the zoning ordinances and as far as we know, they’re obeying the law. In this country, you can’t prohibit a business from establishing a legal operation.”

Still, he says some nearby residents are concerned about the spread of such businesses. Minor said he and his county colleagues will take up the matter during their December 10th meeting.

“We want to explore the legal options on creating distances between adult-oriented businesses in Tallahassee.”

If the county adopts such an ordinance, the Tallahassee City Commission would also have to concur.
