There are lots of good reasons to make bicycles a more common transporation choice. But one negative is that Florida - including Tallahassee - has a poor safety record when it comes to bikes.
So the Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) Executive Director Betsy Couch said promoting safer biking is her group's new community project.
"We are looking to create an educational bicycle park," she said during the project's announcement reception. "It's a place where people can come and have a safe space to practice riding their bicycles, have a resting spot with their bicycles and be reminded of the rules of the road. E-scooter riders can come down and practice, too."
Couch said this will be KCCI's 2020 project and participants - called "community catalysts" - are still being sought.
"The application process is open if someone wants to apply to be part of the project. They'll get started in January and meet weekly and they'll bring the project idea to fruition within a year. So hopefully sometime in 2020 we'll see this educational bicycle park come to life."
The exact location of the proposed bike park will be worked out over the next several months.
