Hope that Tallahassee Hemp Summit May Help Northwest Florida Storm Recovery

With much of North Florida’s forest products economy still in shambles from Hurricane Michael, there’s hope that hemp could replace timber as the region’s new cash crop.

Organizers say the transition could start with the 850  Hemp Summit set for October 2nd at Florida State University’s Turnbull Center. Hemp producers and consumers are on the agenda, along with some of the region’s agricultural and economic development leaders. With Michael destroying an estimated million acres of trees with a loss of more than one-point –three billion dollars, the area has been desperate to find a replacement crop. The deadline for online summit registration is Monday, Sept. 16:
