Yard Sale Raises More Funds for Whole Child Leon

Tom Flanigan

For untold numbers of bargain hunters in Tallahassee, Saturday mornings are eagerly anticipated for all the yard sales they offer. One special sale on Saturday, August 24 benefitted Whole Child Leon.

The parking lot in front of Whole Child Leon's Lee Street headquarters was filled with donated housewares, electronics, furniture and other valuables at daybreak on Saturday. Board member Samantha Vance said each sale helped children of families for whom government services are inadequate.

"We are filling that gap and it's fundraisers like this that help us to do it," she said in between posting examples of remaining bargains onto social media to attract more buyers. "Our board members and other people in the community have donated items and then the community comes out and purchases those items. It really helps us to expand the organization to help more families."

Within a few hours of its opening, the Whole Child Leon sale total was approaching the thousand dollar mark.
