City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow wants to rebid all contracts with businesses and vendors that made payments to suspended Commissioner Scott Maddox.
Maddox pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges Tuesday, in part for taking money from companies, like Uber, in exchange for favorable votes. Matlow calls the criminal activity on the part of Maddox, and the companies he accepted bribes from, “unacceptable.”
“We need to send a clear message to our vendors, and to the people of Tallahassee, that decisions here are not for sale," Matlow said Wednesday. "That’s why I’ve called for any contract where that type of behavior was involved – we need to go back and take another look, and put those for rebid.”
Matlow has drafted a letter to the City attorney and auditor, asking for an opinion on starting an internal inquiry to identify the companies. Matlow also asked about the City’s legal standing with respect to opening contracts back up for rebid.
“We want to make sure people know that Tallahassee is a fair and desirable place to do business,” Matlow said.
Maddox will likely be formally removed from office by Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose spokesperson has confirmed DeSantis is reviewing the case.
