Days after legendary Florida State University baseball skipper Mike Martin coached his last game, his son is taking over the program.  Mike Martin Jr. has been named the new head of FSU Baseball making him the ninth head baseball coach in the school's history.

Mike Martin Jr. becomes  the first new head baseball coach the school has hired since 1980. FSU Athletics Director David Coburn made the announcement Friday.

In a statement, university president John Thrasher says he’s got  “every confidence Mike Martin Jr. will carry on the winning tradition of Florida State University baseball.”

Martin Jr. arrived at FSU first as a player before spending 22 years as an assistant coach.

His father, Mike Martin, is the winningest baseball coach in NCAA history. The Seminoles recently finished their eighth College World Series appearance, but lost to Texas Tech. Despite Martin’s success the school has never won the College World Series.

FSU will formally introduce Martin Jr. to the media at 3:30 in the Moore Athletics Center Museum.
