Tyndall Air Force Base will host its second Industry Day Thursday to give updates on it recovery efforts. The base was damaged during Hurricane Michael, which has since been upgraded to a Category 5 storm.
The recovery is being led by Executive Director Patrice Melancon of the program management office at Tyndall.
“We are very actively pursuing the rebuild of the base," said Melancon.
She says they’ve spent close to $300 million dollars already on demolition, repairs and ongoing operations.
“We are planning for Tyndall to come back even better than it was before,” said Melancon.
Melancon says during Tyndall second Industry Day, officials will be going over rebuilding plans.
“We had almost 100 different papers submitted from about 70 different either companies or we had a couple of universities I think that submitted papers. Basically providing ideas on anything from like smart grids to smart cities,” said Melancon.
The base has yet to get reconstruction funding. It’s one of the largest employers in the region.
