Officials are assessing damage after a system of storms swept through the area Friday morning. An eight-year-old girl is dead after a tree fell on her home in Woodville. Others are facing outages and blocked roads.

The Leon County Sheriff’s office says a 911 call came in just after 8 A.M. reporting a tree, which had gone through a house, injuring two of the residents. Two children, an 8-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, were transported to a local hospital with injuries.

The 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 12-year-old has non-life-threatening injuries and is with family. LCSO Victim Advocates are assisting the family who is asking for privacy at this time.

Meanwhile in  Thomas County Emergency Management Director Chris Jones says officials have received reports of downed tress and partial roads blocks

“Other than that we’ve not send any crews out to do damage assessments home structures, and we’ve not gotten reports as of 10 o’clock this morning of any structures that were damaged or any reported injuries,” Jones says.

Jones says around 1,000 homes in the Thomas County area lost power but doesn’t believe the outagages are the result of any damage to powerlines.

In Wakulla County Emergency Management Director Jennifer Nagy says the damage is not severe.

“So right now, we’re mostly seeing some power outages and trees down in various areas scattered acrossthe county. We got roughly a little less than three thousand people without power right now,” Nagy says.

No reports of damage to homes have been made so far.  But the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado in the area.
