For the second time in school history, the FSU women’s soccer team has been crowned national champions. The team beat the University of North Carolina Tar Heels 1-0 Sunday.

With about 30 minutes left in the game, junior Deyna Castellanos passed to senior Dallas Dorosy, who made the game-winning goal. Coach Mark Krikorian  sees tournaments as an important way to test his team.

“I think there are a lot of us across the country that share a similar philosophy about wanting to go out and measure ourselves against the best teams possible. We saw earlier in the year with USC coming in, and UCLA coming in, and a great game against Florida,” he says.
During the Semifinal game Friday, FSU beat Stanford 2-0, ending the Cardinal’s 45-game win streak. One of those two goals came from redshirt sophomore Malia Berkley. Ahead of the tournament, she said her team felt “calm, cool, and collected.”

“We peaked at the right moment. We’re playing our best soccer right now. And as a team, I think we’re all excited," says Berkley.

The win rounds out a stellar year for women’s athletics at FSU. Earlier this year, the women’s beach volleyball team finished it’s season second in the NCAA, and the women’s softball team won it’s own national championship title over the summer. 2018 celebrates 50 years of women’s athletics at FSU.
The team won the championship yesterday afternoon in Cary, North Carolina. By yesterday evening it was back to studying for many of the team's players as they prepared to face their next challenge: finals week.  Thats according to the team's twitter.

The team will be holding a celebration today that’s open to the public. It’s at 5PM in Doak Campbell Stadium’s Champion’s Club.
