The City of Tallahassee is announcing its next community forum event. City leadership is encouraging all those interested to register for food and conversation at the fourth Longest Table gathering.
Mayor Andrew Gillum touts what he calls the Longest Table’s “genius and simplicity.” The idea is to bring community members together over a meal and conversation at, you guessed it, a really long table.
“People are recognizing that in this unfortunate and increasingly divisive time that we often times find ourselves, that regular everyday people are trying to make stronger and stronger community connections,” Gillum said.
At the first Longest Table in 2014, about 400 people participated. County Commissioner Nick Maddox says it’s grown more than twofold since then.
“Last year I was amazed to see over one thousand friends and strangers from all around our county sharing a meal together,” Maddox said.
The Longest Table program has been emulated by other cities around the country. It is scheduled for October 14, and the table will run along Duval Street. Register at www.LongestTable.com.
