The fate of a former Tallahassee police officer accused of sexual battery is now in the hands of jurors. Vincent Crump is accused of raping a woman during a February traffic stop.
Crump and his attorney Mutaquee Akbar have maintained the sexual encounter with the 21-year-old female victim was consensual. But the woman and the state argue she was forced to have sex with Crump to avoid getting into trouble.
The situation began February when Crump pulled over the car the woman was driving. In initial reports, Crump told the woman he smelled marijuana in the car but that he could make her a deal. The two drove to Dorothy B. Oven park where the first sexual encounter took place, and then to an office complex where the other occurred.
A call was made to the consolidated dispatch agency following the encounter and TPD Chief Mike DeLeo announced Crump was fired the next morning.
During the initial investigation Crump lied to detectives telling them he had met the woman weeks earlier at Governor’s Square Mall and that they had a sexual relationship prior.
