A Tallahassee woman accused of orchaestrating the murder of her husband two decades ago is now facing additional charges of insurance fraud. State Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis announced the three felony counts Friday.

In a statement he said  the charges are just one part of the case and blasted Denise Williams for “attempting to profit off someone’s death.”

The investigation into the insurance issues began in May, shortly after Williams was arrested and charged in the murder of her husband Mike Williams. His body was found in December after it was  long believed he drowned in a fishing accident.

The CFO’s office says Denise Williams initially listed Mike Williams' cause of death as an accidental drowning and cashed in three insurance policies. Upon her arrest, law enforcement revealed she conspired with Mike Williams' best friend, Brian Winchester to have him killed. Winchester confessed to the killing. Denise Williams later married Winchester but the two are now divorced.
