Leon High School is under investigation into whether it violated the state’s mandatory sexual assault reporting laws.

The incidents of inappropriate touching happened off-campus and involved students at Leon and Chiles High Schools. Chiles Principal Joe Burgess reported the incident to the Department of Children and Families, and the district says parents at both schools were notified.

Now the Leon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether Leon High School failed to report to DCF on its end, as required by law.

In a written statement, the district says Leon High Staff complied with DCF’s investigation and will continue to do so. It also says Leon School Superintendent Rocky Hanna has been in contact with the agency.
