Jim Moran Institute Moves Downtown

Tom Flanigan

For the first time in nearly a quarter-of-a-century, Florida State University’s Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship has moved off campus. Institute Executive Director Randy Blass was among those speaking during the ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 1st.

“Oh, wow! This is a big day and super-exciting to finally stand up in the facility for the small business leaders in the Tallahassee area and actually around the state, we’re finally in a space that is consistent with the quality of the programs we offer,” he said.

The Institute’s new home is a 20,000 square foot former bank building at 111 South Monroe Street in downtown Tallahassee. Blass called it an “ideal location,” especially given the large and easily accessible parking area at the rear of the building.

“We operated out of the (on-campus) FSU College of Business for 23 years,” he pointed out. “But always did our programs out in the community. So to have our own facility versus borrowed space became something we knew we really wanted to work towards.”

Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce President Sue Dick, whose offices are just a block away, called the Institute a “valued neighbor.”

“What a wonderful opportunity for the downtown area with the Jim Moran Building and everything that it brings to our community, promoting not only our students but all the wonderful things that Jim Moran and his family have brought to Florida State University and Tallahassee.”
