Philip Levine Brings Governor's Bid to Tiger Bay

Tom Flanigan

The candidate most polls now say is the Democratic front-runner for Florida governor spoke in Tallahassee today (Tuesday, 3/27). Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine appeared at the Capital Tiger Bay Club meeting.

For starters, Levine called himself a different kind of Democrat.

“I’m not right and I’m not left. I’m forward. I’m pro-people and I’m pro-business.”

Levine added he favored putting the matter of an assault weapon ban on the ballot, predicting it would pass overwhelmingly in Florida. And he professed a deep appreciation for state employees.

“And I know how important these people are and how important it is to make sure they’re excited, motivated, focused and they believe they’re part of something bigger than themselves. And I know we can achieve that in Florida.”

Levine faces a hotly contested Democratic primary election against Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, former North Florida Congresswoman Gwen Graham and Orlando Businessman Chris King.
