Legislature Funds New Schools For Taylor, Jackson and Liberty Counties

Hartsfield Elementary School
Leon County Schools

Three North Florida school districts will get new schools courtesy of the Florida legislature. Jackson, Taylor and Liberty County are in line for millions of dollars.

Republican Senator Rob Bradley outlined the funding in his overview of the state’s $88.7 billion budget.

“These are the smaller counties that do not have enough revenue to replace schools that are getting old and need to be replaced," he said.

The legislature takes on the task of constructing schools when its too expensive for some districts to do so, because they don't generate enough money in local property taxes.

  • Taylor County Schools: $6.272 million (year 3 of 3)
  • Liberty County Schools: $6.06 million (year 2 of 3)
  • Jackson County Schools: $ 19 million (year 2 of 3)

Together, the projects are worth about $32 million.
