Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum says he’s hoping for speedy conclusion to the ongoing FBI probe into public corruption in the city government. The statement comes after the Tallahassee Democrat first reported a search warrant was issued for city commissioner Scott Maddox’s iphone accounts.

The warrant, posted on the Tallahassee Democrat's website, is looking for communication between Maddox and his business associate, Page Carter Smith. It alleges the commissioner may have been trading commission votes in exchange for money that was funneled to a company run by Smith, but owned by Maddox.

City Commissioner Curtis Richardson said he was not surprised by the revelations, reiterating his comments at last week's City Commission meeting that "whoever did something illegal or inappropriate would be dealt with."

The documents were mistakenly uploaded to the North District Court of Florida’s website and later taken down following a request for them to be sealed.

In a statement, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum says he’s troubled by what he’s read and wants a “speedy conclusion to this unfortunate matter.”

In the wake of the FBI’s investigation and separate local probes, several city officials such as city manager Rick Fernandez have stepped down or declined to run for re-election.
