Until recently, Chip Conley was one of the leaders of the revolutionary hospitality company called Airbnb. Conley is coming to Tallahassee next week as this year’s Power Forward event speaker.
As a demand-driven, online accessible option to traditional hotels and motels, Airbnb struck terror into the hearts of that industry. Conley says many other old-fashioned businesses had better watch their step.
“Who’s most at risk I think are companies and industries that have grown complacent by their past successes and I think those that have actually lost touch with their core customers’ evolving needs; those who haven’t even imagined a whole new set of customers with different needs.”
Conley said he’ll address the changing business landscape in his talk, but he’ll also speak of personal re-invention in the business world.
“How do we help older people past the age of 50 or 55 support younger people and vice-versa? How can we be both a mentor and an intern at the same time?”
Conley’s Power Forward talk is next Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 31 at 3:30 in FSU’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. Tickets are available through: https://tickets.fsu.edu
