Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna announced Monday his new Work Days initiative. He wants to learn more about a range of jobs within the school district, so he can do his own better.

Superintendent Rocky Hanna will be spending his Thursdays wearing many hats: he’ll shadow, among other people, a substitute teacher, a crossing guard, and a school nurse. He says the goal of his new Work Days initiative is to learn more about the school districts’ employees and their needs.

"Although I’ve been with our school system thirty years and know a lot, there’s a lot that I don’t know," Hanna says. "And I think the more I can be engaged with those folks, and gain a better understanding of some of their issues, the better job I can do to try to address them."

Hanna’s first Work Day begins this week. He’ll spend this Thursday working as a School Resource Officer, just in time for Leon County’s First Responder Appreciation Day.
