Jennifer Powell has been named Leon County’s Teacher of the Year.

Powell teaches Economics and American Government at Lawton Chiles High School.

In a written statement, Principal Joe Burgess said Powell shows, “tireless commitment to students, parents and staff and sets the standard for a quality educator.”

In 2011, she was the only teacher in Florida to receive a $24,000 national award to study the American Constitution from the James Madison Memorial Foundation.

Her Leon County Teacher of the Year recognition means Powell will go on to compete in the statewide program.
