Willie Taggart set to become 11th head football coach at Florida State University.
Oregon Club of Portland

Florida State University has hired Willie Taggart as the new head football coach.  He had been considered the front-runner for the job.

Taggart comes to FSU from the University of Oregon, where he headed that school’s football program for just a year.

He succeeds Jimbo Fisher, who resigned last week to become head coach a Texas A&M University. Taggart is a Florida native, from Palmetto, who previously coached at the University of South Florida.

In a statement, Florida State University President John Thrasher says,  "I'm excited to have Willie Taggart as the next head coach for FSU football.  We met with him yesterday in Arizona and worked through the evening and last night to come to an agreement.  Coach Taggart exemplifies everything about FSU Seminole traditions.”

The university is planning to hold a press conference Wednesday morning.
