St. Johns Episcopal Church could soon receive a local historical designation. The Tallahassee City Commission is poised to approve its addition to the county’s historical registry.
St. Johns Episcopal Church was built in 1888, and according to a city analysis, is one of a few remaining brick Gothic Revival style churches in the state. The 130-year-old building stands at 211 North Monroe Street in downtown, Tallahassee where it has stood since its construction.
The Commission will have its first and only public hearing on the building’s new potential designation Wednesday.
The property has already passed muster with the Tallahassee-Leon County architectural review board, which determines what buildings make good candidates for the distinction.
