Proctor Unveils Crime Fighting Plan

Tom Flanigan

Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor has revealed his plan for combating violent crime in his district.  He's demanding Florida’s Governor and Tallahassee’s Mayor take steps to solve the problem.

On Wednesday (10/18), Proctor sent a letter to Governor Rick Scott.

“And I’m here today to ask the governor for an emergency state declared,” he told reporters during a midday media event in the lobby of the Leon County Courthouse.

The six-term commissioner insisted this would help alleviate the poverty in his district that has fueled the current wave of violent crime. Proctor also made a phone call to Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who also happens to be running for governor.

“And our community needs our mayor right now. So I’m asking the mayor to consider suspending his campaign,” Proctor said.

There was no immediate word from Gillum as to whether or not that was going to happen. Proctor also had a five-part proposal, much of it creating citizen panels to advise the mayor on ways to reduce violent crime in the Capital City.
