People who love both coffee and cats have a new Tallahassee destination. The city's first-ever cat cafe had its grand opening on Saturday (8/26).
Long-time animal welfare advocate Michelle Hartsfield is the founder and owner of the "Fat Cat Cafe".
"Someone said the other day the first one was in Russia," Hartsfield said as cafe customers interacted happily with its feline residents. "I only saw them being advertised in Japan and then they sprouted up over Europe and all over the United States."
Just like those cafes, customers enjoy socializing with lots of cats. But the real purpose of the Fat Cat Cafe Hartsfield said is to provide the cats with new forever homes through adoption. She also suggested customers visit: www.fatcatcafetally.com ahead of time.
"It would be great for them to go online to the web site and book online," she said. "That secures a spot. If you're unable to do that we do accept walk-ins, but if it's full we have to turn them away."
The Fat Cat Cafe is on East Park Avenue near the Capital Circle intersection.
