Florida Congressman Neal Dunn (R-Panama City) visited Tallahassee Wednesday to speak with a group of Republicans about the political climate in Washington.

He began the afternoon by discussing the way he believes politics are portrayed in the media.

“It’s a shame that the press isn’t telling you more about what’s actually going on in Washington. So I thought maybe that’s my job… to give you perspective on what I see.”

Dunn said despite other reports, the Senate and House are working together to get legislation passed.

“It’s not all roses. You know that. But there are some things happening, we’re actually passing some laws,” he said. “You just don’t see that very often on the news.”

The freshman politician gave updates on policies the party has been working on, including the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare:

“Obviously the Senate has stumbled on healthcare reform, and that was a shocking development, not just to me a newcomer, but to the seasoned, cynical hands in Washington,” he said. “They too were shocked...”

The congressman looks forward to the fall legislative session, and said he’s ready to take care of the legislation that matters most to his constituents, including healthcare, veteran’s services, tax reform, and military spending.

Dunn is still optimistic on a healthcare plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. He said he’s also working on a tax reform package he believes will help pay off the national debt.
