Tallahassee drivers may have a new traffic signal to get used to in the near future. Traffic signal engineers are hoping to implement a flashing yellow arrow in left turn lane intersections throughout the city.
The plan is to replace static green lights in left turn lanes with flashing yellow arrows. Signal engineer Josh Hollingsworth says the change is all about safety, but not all intersections will be altered.
“It would not be for all of them. They’re gonna have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Not all situations are gonna be suitable for it, whether from an operational stand point or from simply infrastructure, what’s existing out there. So it’s not gonna be a full-scale implementation,” Hollingsworth said.
With this already being implemented in nearby counties, city officials hope the changes aid in increasing the confidence of drivers. During Wednesday’s city commission meeting, officials will discuss the possibility of working with the Florida Department of Transportation in order to update state roads within the city, as well.
