Despite some minor damage, Franklin County officials say the area is doing well after a tornado hit St. George Island Tuesday.
Tress Dameron is the coordinator for the Franklin County’s Emergency Management. She says so far, a few roofs on St. George Island sustained some minor damage from the tornado.
“It only affected about four houses, and they were rental properties,” she said. “So, the rental agency is taking care of that. We’re monitoring the weather. We’re keeping people informed. But, as of right now, we seem to be doing pretty well.”
As it’s the beginning of Hurricane season, Dameron says area residents are still encouraged to prepare and have a plan.
“Just being prepared and monitoring the weather, and ensuring their safety,” she added. “When there are red flags or rip currents, don’t get out in the water.”
