Florida’s Capital City joined with many other communities around the state on Monday (6/12) in solemn tribute to those killed during the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting in Orlando one year ago.
The great bell in the tower of St. John’s Episcopal Church downtown pealed 49 times, once for every person who died in the worst American mass shooting in modern times. But St. John’s Associate Rector Abi Moon said more than ringing church bells may be needed to help people deal with the pain and sorrow.
“Grief is a hard thing,” she explained. “I think it’s important to reach out for professional help as needed, for assistance in counseling and also to come to places where you can be accepted for who you are.”
Meanwhile, Governor Rick Scott had urged all Floridians to observe a moment of silence at 9:00 a.m. Monday in memory of those killed and wounded one year ago.
