Monticello Republican Representative Halsey Beshears sponsored the bill. He says the special district has been inactive for years.
“Carrabelle Port Authority, very briefly, was established in 1986 and since 2000 it has basically been inactive. Upon recent inspection from the DOT to get the license renewed, this has been hanging out there and they realized they need to do something with it,” Beshears said.
Beshears told lawmakers during the committee process that the port authority has no assets. The city commission voted last year in favor of dissolving the authority.
