Proposed Business Park Moves Forward Despite Economic Instability

Despite experts’ skepticism of investing in business parks, Tallahassee builders continue to fund these types of projects.

During last week’s Community Redevelopment Meeting, Senior Director of GAI Consultants David Darsey spoke on the monetary risks of constructing office buildings.

“Traditional office is quite a ways out in the future. Office is struggling not only in Tallahassee but in various areas in the state and country. That market has been the hardest to come back from the recession,” Darsey said.

The comments come as a new developer is proposing to build two 21,700 square foot buildings on the corner of Mahan Drive and Dempsey Mayo Road. Development Services Administrator, Scott Brockmeier says the project is still moving forward.

“After tomorrow’s meeting the review team will conclude on whether the project will proceed forward to the next review step which is the Development Review Committee. The Development Review Committee or DRC has the authority to approve conditions or deny this type of application,” Brockmeier said.

The application for the park is under review by the county. The plan comes from Tallahassee’s project management firm the Parish Group. Brockmeier and other members with the county will meet Wednesday afternoon to review the case for these administrative office buildings.
