Tallahassee’s School of Arts and Sciences holds a Tuesday (5/2) ribbon-cutting for a major expansion of its Thomasville Road campus. The new classroom building will allow the school to nearly double its enrollment within three years.
School of Arts and Sciences Thomasville Road Campus Principal Eirin Lombardo said her school has both a solid history and a bright future.
“(We’re) not only the original Leon County charter school, but we are the only high-performing charter school in the area, which is an extra feather in our cap. So not only are we here, but we’re doing really well.”
Lombardo added the new classroom building will provide more academic experiences and permit a near doubling of enrollment from the present 250 to 450 students by the year 2020. Although she insists that won’t detract from the school’s traditional culture.
“We pride ourselves on being a small school and a tight-knit community and so we have maintained that and now we’ll get to focus on that.”
Meanwhile, Lombardo revealed the fall waiting list for the school has now exceeded 2100 students.
