The father of former Florida State University Wide Receiver Travis Rudolph has died after being shot by an accidentally discharged gun while working on repairs at a West Palm Beach club. Rudolph made headlines last year when, during a trip to a middle school, he decided to eat lunch with an autistic child dining alone. Rudolph called their encounter a blessing at the time.

“I hope he stays focused and continues being the person he is. I feel like he’s a great person and I’d love to hang out with him anytime," he said.

The death of his father comes as Rudolph prepares for the NFL Draft, which begins April 27th. Darryl Rudolph was shot in the back. According to the local sheriffs department, the gun fired from an adjacent room as a coworker was moving it off a shelf.
