Leon County officials were checking out some of the area’s affordable housing options on Tuesday, March 21. They say it’s part of an ongoing effort to assess how many homes are available for those at the lower levels of the income scale.
The tour started at the Westgate Court on Blountstown Highway. Developed by Rick Kearney, the complex provides an assisted living, community-type environment for those transitioning from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Among the officials on the tour, Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge.
“I paid more for a dorm room for my son and it was not as nice as these,” Desloge laughed.
The group also toured Kearney’s new Dwellings development further out Highway 20, which features the “tiny house” concept of stand-along homes between two-hundred fifty and four-hundred square feet in size.
