It’s goodbye to Tallahassee’s “Dick Howser Center” and hello to the “Bruce Harter Learning Pavilion.” But Tallahassee’s venerable pre-school for children with special needs plans to continue and even expand upon its menu of services.
Bruce Harter was one of the founders of the former Dick Howser Center. The first big physical change to the facility he helped start came two years ago when the center moved from Mabry Street on Tallahassee’s west side to Evening Rose on the east side. On Thursday (3/2), the center launched its new name and touted an additional building. But Director Kim Sineath insisted the core concept continues.
“Our mission has always been to serve children with special needs and their families, but I think that when we look at how we do that now we’re really looking at early intervention; catching developmental delays right away.”
And Sineath added the new building boosts the capacity of the center by around 50 students. The facility provides pre-school programs for kids between the ages of six months and six years.
