A Tallahassee synagogue was among many around the country on the receiving end of anonymous hate mail and threats in recent months. Now the congregation is thanking the community that responded to those attacks with support and encouragement.
Beginning in December, Tallahassee’s Conservative Shormrei Torah Congregation has received a number of hate letters, some containing vile threats. Congregation Vice President Sandler Dickson said local residents were quick to condemn the anonymous attacks.
“After the event happened and a lot of people were aware of this, many cards and very thoughtful letters were received,” he said.
By way of gratitude, Dickson said this Friday evening’s (2/17) Sabbath service will be open to the community.
“Yes, it’s for everyone just to give appreciation to the city of Tallahassee and its people,” he said.
The service at the Shomrei Torah Synagogue on Kerry Forest Parkway begins at 8:00 p.m.Friday.
