The Leon County Government will now be responsible for day to day oversight of the county’s emergency management function. County Administrator Vince Long says the move stems from a recommendation following Hurricane Hermine and removes the responsibility from the sheriff’s office.
“We simply believe that this organizational change will result in greater opportunities for us to continue to improve the year round coordination of emergency management functions—including planning, staffing, training and field operations,” Long says.
Long says the storms over the weekend triggered a partial activation of the Emergency Operation Center. Officials say they’re happy with the local response.
