Hanna Announces New Principals And District Office Admin Review

Two Leon County schools will get new principles mid-school year and the district plans to move forward with a review of its administrative office.

Kate Sullivan Principal Pam Stephens is retiring this month and will be replaced by Michael Bryan, the current Assistant Principal at Leon High. Meanwhile Scotty Crowe will be leaving the district’s office to lead Deerlake Middle School, a move Hanna says was decided shortly after he took office.

“The time we’ve had as principals are some of the best moments of our lives, and Scotty asked, he said ‘I want to go back to the kids. I think I’ve done good work here in the district office’ and by gosh, you have," he told Crowe.

Crowe is an Assistant Superintendent at the district, and his job at headquarters will be handled by the district’s Gillian Gregory.

Meanwhile, the Leon County School district is partnering with the business management group the Florida Sterling Council. It will pay the council $17,000 to evaluate the district’s departments and come up with best practices.  Hanna says the review will start with the Human Resources and Finance Departments.

“They’re well respected and we’re excited about this opportunity," he said.

School Board member Dee Dee Rasmussen noted the review is one the board requested last year as part of its strategic plan.

Hanna says he also plans to incorporate the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, and has found a mentor in Escambia county’s superintendent.
