Vets Invite Elected Officials to Regular Conclave

Tom Flanigan

The yearly "Operation Thank You Veterans' Day Breakfast" kicked off the Capital City's salute to those who served on Friday.

And in the wake of the recent election, the region's public servants may soon find themselves more involved in veterans affairs. Tallahassee's Sauls-Bridges Post 13 American Legion Home was packed beyond anything Leon County Commission Vice Chair John Dailey had ever seen.

"I think we've had the biggest crowd we've had at the Operation Thank You Breakfast," he remarked as many of those on hand headed for the Veterans' Day Parade route through downtown Tallahassee. "It was fantastic and what a great way to celebrate our veterans!"

Dailey and five of his fellow county commissioners were there along with several other local elected officials. Post Commander John Folsom hopes these folks will come around more often than just every Veterans' Day.

"And we meet here on a monthly basis and I've told the incoming sheriffs and some of the incoming commissioners they're going to get invited to meet with this select group of men," he said, referring to the leaders of the entire region's veterans organizations, including other American Legion, VFW and Amvets posts.
