The Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriffs office want to meet one-on-one with anyone interested in an early morning cup of coffee.
President Obama has designated this week as National Community Policing week, and as a part of that, the Leon County Sheriffs Office and Tallahassee police department are holding the first coffee with cop event. It’s an opportunity for law enforcement to interact and hear the concerns of local residents, and it comes as relationships between minority communities and officers is strained.
Leon County Sheriffs Deputies will be at Redeye Coffee at 1122 Thomasville Road between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday morning. The Tallahassee Police Department the Tallahassee Police officers will be nearby at the Thomasville McDonalds as well as the location on South Monroe.
TPD has been trying to boost its relationships with communities in Leon County. Officers have joined with church leaders and local officials to walk largely minority and low income neighborhoods to interact with residents in non-confrontational ways.
