Mail ballots are now on the way to many thousands of Leon County voters. This is also the final shipment under the watch of the county’s longtime Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho.
Late Tuesday morning, Sancho was at Tallahassee’s Main Post Office standing in front of the ballots….many, MANY ballots.
“25,770 mail ballots are in this shipment,” he said, indicating the carts stacked high with envelopes.
Calling this election “perhaps the most important” in his 28-years in office, Sancho reminded voters the county’s early voting sites will be open from October 24th through November 5th. Between that and the mail-in ballots, he expects about half of local voters to have already cast ballots before Election Day, November 8th.
“We can handle a record turnout, or a non-record turnout. We are ready. Now all we need is for the citizens to show up and make their choices known,” he said.
And for Sancho, a bittersweet time as this is his final election as supervisor.
“I’ll remember these moments forever,” he said with just a trace of wistfulness.
