Hundreds Walk Against Alzheimer's

Tom Flanigan

Nearly 400 people agreed Saturday (9/17) was a great day for a stroll around Tallahassee's Cascades Park.

They were all raising money to help the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. Annie Todd with the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association said this was just one of many such walks across the country.

"The walk is held in over 600 communities nationally and it is used for Alzheimer's support, care and research."

This year's Walk Chair David Wheeler said much of the money goes to fund ways of treating and someday even preventing the disease.

"New medications are showing promise in research and we are very optimistic that we are going some effective treatments before too much longer," he predicted.

Some 5,000 thousand people in the Tallahassee area are afflicted with Alzheimer's. The number of Alzheimer's patients in Florida is close to half-a-million.
