Mayor Gillum Partners With Faith Leaders

Aryanna Duhl

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is seeking community insight from a very diverse group of religious leaders.

At quarterly luncheons, Gillum meets with the Faith Leaders Network, several leaders from Tallahassee Islamic, Jewish, and Christian organizations. He says they help him understand what issues face the people they serve in their community.

“Obviously, I’m a believer in the separation of church and state, but I’m also realistic enough to know that we can’t be effective in our effort to build community and strengthen community if we don’t have all of our community partners at the table, and faith leaders are just one extremely important part of that," he says.

Gillum calls it a “hand in glove relationship.” He speaks with them about his upcoming initiatives, and gets feedback from the group.
