Leon County Crimes Rates On The Decline

Flickr Creative Commons

Leon County and Tallahassee law enforcers say local violent crime rates are dropping. Leon County’s 2015 per capita crime rate was among the top in the state, but since then officials say they’ve seen significant drops in violent crime and murder locally. And while Sheriff Mike Wood admits he doesn’t know yet how local numbers compare the rest of the state, he feels confident the change is positive.

"Going in a downward direction is certainly going to help us at the end of the year when all the numbers are claculated," Wood says.

Wood attributes the decrease in crime to a better partnership between the police and sheriffs offices as well as efforts by both departments to increase engagement in the community.
